Breath Token February 2018

A breath token is a breathing exploration that I develop for friends & clients and send out as a gift.

Sphinx

There‘s a simple and powerful fascia exercise where one lies on the floor with the palms of the hands facing downwards. One can imagine the fingers extending, like roots growing along the floor. On the train today I thought, why not do the same thing whilst sitting down? So let‘s try it out. Either leaning back or sitting upright in our seat, our hands settle on the upper thighs. We let the shoulders sink towards the hip bones, resisting the habit of  either collapsing them or pushing them back or holding them in some way. So we‘re letting the shoulders sink, we’re letting the lower jaw sink and also the eyes. We bring our attention towards our hands with our mind as well as with our gaze. The eyes can be open or closed.
And let’s just sense what happens, in the body, with the breathing, and in the heart area.
I felt like a sphinx sitting there which was a bit strange, a sphinx in the S-Bahn…

The benefits I experienced were:
deepening and slowing of the breath
calming of the mind
opening of the chest
connecting with the heart area
sense of grounding
self-empowerment
