In the entertaining and quirky telenovela, Jane the Virgin, we learn what to do in a stressful situation: „inhala, exhala“. Since this is a telenovela with continuous twists and turns, accidental artificial insemination, love triangles, a villain with multiple faces, a husband returned from the dead etc, „inhala, exhala“ is the mantra of the show.
It is first introduced by the telenovela superstar Rogelio de la Vega, who has learnt „inhala, exhala“ from his mother, his acting coach from childhood on. Rogelio discovers after 23 years that he has a daughter, Jane Villanueva, at the same time that Jane finds out she’s becoming a mother, while still being a virgin. Jane, her mother and grandmother are telenovela worshippers and thus „intimately“ familiar with Rogelio as the star of The Passions of Santos. When Rogelio enters their lives for real, he teaches his mantra to the Villanueva women and everyone in their circle.
Since his shot to fame with The Passions of Santos, Rogelio has been in the habit of using „inhala, exhala“ when being introduced to starstruck female fans. Here’s the scene when he approaches Jane, against the wishes of Jane’s mother Xiomara, for the first time and guides his daughter to “inhala, exhala”, without her knowing that Rogelio is her father.
